Plot summary
Harold Van Pelham is a young American businessman who frets constantly about his health and is convinced he is gravely ill. He books passage on a passenger ship from California to Paradiso, a small island lying off Chile's coast in South America, bringing along his valet Mr. Pipps and his personal nurse in hopes that tropical air will restore him. Paradiso offers no peace. Jim Blake, a renegade from the United States, is stirring up a revolt against the island's republican government to serve his own financial interests. Cut off from the valet and the nurse, Harold roams the town, not yet aware that an armed uprising has taken place. Blake has him locked in the local jail, where he shares a cell with Colosso, a gigantic prisoner the warden calls a wild hermit, half mad with a toothache.

- Ringling Brothers circus giant George Auger was cast as Colosso but died the day before he was due to travel to California to start filming. After a nationwide search he was replaced by Norwegian John Aasen of Minnesota, found through a newspaper article about his enormous shoes.
- The original script had Harold travel to Mexico instead of the invented island of Paradiso; Harold Lloyd made the change because using Mexico as the setting was felt to perpetuate unfair stereotyping.
- Why Worry? was the last film Harold Lloyd made in partnership with Hal Roach; the two parted on good terms, and Lloyd now had enough money to finance his own films independently.
- It was the first Harold Lloyd film to star Jobyna Ralston as his leading lady; she went on to appear in his next five films.
- The village set built for Why Worry? was reused in Hal Roach's Our Gang short Dogs of War, shot at the same time, with Harold Lloyd and Jobyna Ralston making guest appearances.
