Plot summary
Charlie walks the streets with his bulldog beside him. A horseshoe lies in his path and he takes it for a lucky find. It comes to hand just as he passes a training camp, where a painted advertisement announces that the fighter Spike Dugan is looking for sparring partners who can take a punch. Charlie watches other, better fighters be beaten by Dugan. He decides his chances rest on the horseshoe, and he puts it inside his boxing glove.
