Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Safety Last! (1923)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Lloyd performed some of the climbing stunts himself despite having lost a thumb and forefinger four years earlier in an accident on another film.
- The climb was faked with a number of buildings from 1st Street to 9th Street in downtown Los Angeles, all of different heights, each carrying a rooftop set built to match the facade of the International Bank Building at Temple and Spring Streets.
- Stuntman Harvey Parry appeared in the climactic sequence, a fact he revealed only after Lloyd's death, and in the 1980 Thames Television series Hollywood he discussed at length how the stunts were achieved.
- Bill Strother, who played “Limpy” Bill, was a steeplejack whose climbing Lloyd had watched, which inspired the sequence; Strother was also sometimes the stunt double used in the long shots.
- The film used a one-block alley near Hollywood and Cahuenga Boulevard that was later renamed Chaplin-Keaton-Lloyd Alley in recognition of the silent films shot there.
