Plot summary
Maurice Courtelin is a Parisian tailor whose aristocratic client, the Viscount Gilbert de Varèze, has run up large bills for clothing he never pays for. Maurice travels to the château of Gilbert's uncle, the Duc d'Artelines, to collect what he is owed. On the road he meets the Duc's niece, Princesse Jeanette, a widow of three years, and declares his love; she rejects him. At the château, Gilbert introduces Maurice as Baron Courtelin to keep his debts from his uncle. Maurice hesitates at the deception, then sees Jeanette again and goes along with it. The Duc takes to him, while Jeanette does not.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Love Me Tonight (1932)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The song "Isn't It Romantic?" passes seamlessly from Chevalier's tailor to a customer, a passing taxi driver, soldiers on a troop train, a gypsy boy and finally the bedchamber of Princess Jeanette, played by Jeanette MacDonald, and its lyrics fit the action so exactly that Hart had to write a more generic alternative for the published sheet music.
- For the post-Production Code re-release after 1934, Love Me Tonight was trimmed from 96 to 89 minutes. The missing eight minutes are presumed lost and include Myrna Loy's portion of the "Mimi" reprise, cut because her negligee was deemed too revealing.
