Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Wazir (2016)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Wazir began as an English-language script intended to be Vidhu Vinod Chopra's first Hollywood film, with Dustin Hoffman playing the protagonist. Producer Robert Newmyer died suddenly in 2005 and the script was shelved.
- Bejoy Nambiar's remark that casting Amitabh Bachchan and limiting him in a wheelchair was a big task was condemned as disparaging by Javed Abidi, founder of the Disability Rights Group, and Nambiar apologised for hurting feelings.
- The idea for Wazir came to Vidhu Vinod Chopra after badminton player Syed Modi was murdered in Lucknow on 28 July 1988, though Chopra has said the film is completely different from that incident.
- Aditi Rao Hydari was cast after Bejoy Nambiar saw pictures from her ramp walk for a designer and Chopra saw her dancing, then she went through three auditions: dance, acting and a screen test.
- Farhan Akhtar agreed to play the lead even though his father Javed Akhtar and Vidhu Vinod Chopra were then engaged in a public verbal duel, telling Chopra the script was so good he would bear with him.
- Farhan Akhtar gained eight kilograms and met friends who were ATS officers to prepare for the role of an Anti Terrorist Squad officer, modelling his character on Vishwas Nangare Patil, a real Inspector-general of police from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
- Amitabh Bachchan's legs were removed below the knee with visual effects to make his chess master a wheelchair user; he wore black socks with marks on them during filming to help create the effect.
