Plot summary
In 1995, in insurgency-hit Kashmir, the doctor Hilaal Meer operates on the leader of a militant group at his Srinagar home, over the objections of his wife Ghazala. The next day a military raid follows: the militant is killed, Hilaal is accused of harboring terrorists and taken away for questioning, and the family house is bombed. Haider, the couple's son, leaves his studies at Aligarh Muslim University and returns to find answers about his father. He finds Ghazala laughing and singing with his uncle Khurram, Hilaal's younger brother, and cannot understand her. With Arshia Lone, a journalist and his childhood sweetheart, he goes from police station to detention camp looking for leads as winter arrives in Kashmir.
