Plot summary
Bent Arrow, West Texas, is a town most people have moved on from. Cotton, a bright ten-year-old, has been left behind there. Butch is a gentle man who paints watercolor postcards at a roadside stand, and his life has come to that spot by way of professional football and heartache. Cotton's sister Sunny returns to town, unhappy after the death of their mother. A relationship begins to grow between Sunny and Butch, and he starts to believe he can be happy again. The two of them set out to help the struggling town, drawn together by their affection for Cotton, who is on her own for the first time.
