Plot summary
Molly is fourteen and lives in Baltimore with her mother Jean and her younger brother Michael. Jean marries Dave, a writer, and the family moves into an old country church that has been turned into a house near Holwell. On the way they stop for Dave's daughter Heather, who has spent three years in a psychiatric hospital since seeing her mother die in a fire. Heather follows a blue butterfly into the woods. A plaque in the churchyard graveyard marks a six-year-old girl whose initials match Heather's.
