Plot summary
Lilly visits her father's grave with her mother, and the drive home ends in a car accident that leaves her orphaned and without her sight. Growing up blind, she hears voices around her that do not belong to the living. She learns to cope, and as an adult she is married and expecting a baby. Then she discovers her unborn child has become a vessel, a way for souls trapped in limbo to be born again through her. Which soul receives that chance is hers to choose before the baby's first heartbeat, and the voices from her childhood have come back, each one asking to be the one.
