Plot summary
Three men mean to rob the bank in the Arizona mining town of Bradenville on Saturday: Harper, who passes himself off as a salesman, Dill, a benzedrine addict, and the bookish Chapman. Boyd Fairchild, who runs the copper mine, considers an affair with the nurse Linda Sherman though his wife is philandering. Shelley Martin, Fairchild's associate, has a contented family, but his son Steve thinks him a coward for staying in the U.S. during World War II to manage the mine. Harry Reeves, the bank manager, is a timid voyeur, and the librarian Elsie Braden steals to escape her debts.
