Plot summary
Taj Mahal Badalandabad has just finished at Coolidge College and travels to England's Camford University, where his father once studied. He intends to earn a degree and to be accepted into the Fox and Hounds, the campus fraternal guild. When he arrives, Pip Everett, the Earl of Grey and the guild's leader, informs him that a mistake was made and he has no place in it. Taj takes the only housing available on campus and becomes Head of House for four student misfits: Sadie, Seamus, Gethin and Simon. His bulldog Balzac stays with him as he settles into the barn, the building reserved for those the university has set aside.
