Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Union of Salvation (2019)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- While filming the climactic Senate Square scenes in Saint Petersburg, the air temperature dropped to -24 °C and felt like -30 °C because of the humidity, so the actors' and extras' rosy cheeks and red noses were real, not make-up; they wore thermal underwear and warmed up in vehicles between takes.
- The mass scene of the December 14, 1825 uprising was shot in the country's largest pavilion, more than 40,000 m2, and a chromakey screen was sewn specially for it that covered the whole building from the inside.
- A movie village was built specifically for the film, made up of 22 houses, a temple, a Russian well, beehives, awnings and bridges, and it is now a museum because the studio donated the buildings to the local administration.
- For a year and a half the entire production process was recorded on a Samsung 360 Round 360-degree camera, the first time this had been done in Russian cinema.
- Crowd scenes were enlarged by photographing a soldier with a rig of many cameras to create 3D models of the real actors that then filled the frame: the 300-500 extras on set became several times that number on screen.
- The rebel regiments' banners in the film exactly replicate the historical standards, and each canvas took at least a month to make by hand.
- Composer Dmitriy Emelyanov, at producer Konstantin Ernst's request, arranged famous Russian songs such as Mumiy Troll's "Vladivostok 2000", Nautilus Pompilius's "Water Walks" and Med Dog's "Fly Away" for symphony orchestra, while singer Vasiliy Vakulenko ("Basta") wrote the theme song "Sensara".
