Plot summary
Nineteen-year-old Jimmy lives in a rundown block of units in inner Sydney, earning money as a barker outside a Kings Cross strip club with his friend Les and taking underground fights. He wants to follow his late brother Michael into the criminal crew run by Pando, the mob boss who offers him work. That same night he meets Alex, the sister of his friend Rocket, visiting from the country, and the two connect. Pando then entrusts him with $10,000 for a woman in Bondi. Finding her not at home, Jimmy waits at Bondi Beach, buries the envelope in the sand and goes for a swim. Two street kids, Pete and Helen, watch him and take the cash, leaving him $10,000 in debt to Pando.

- Two Hands exists in two cuts: after its premiere at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, director Gregor Jordan trimmed scenes involving Jimmy's brother, taking the film from 103 minutes to 93, and the shorter version is often wrongly called the "Director's Cut".
- Powderfinger's single "These Days" was on the Two Hands soundtrack, and its music video was put together using footage from the film.
