Plot summary
In 2009, Jessica Watson sets out from Sydney at sixteen to become the youngest person to sail alone around the globe without stopping and without help. She may not dock anywhere, and the route requires her to cross the equator and every meridian of longitude. The trip is expected to take about 200 days. Her coach is Ben Bryant, a former competitive sailor, and her parents and siblings follow her progress. Aboard her boat, Ella's Pink Lady, she stays in contact by satellite phone. During a test run, a cargo ship that had strayed off course strikes the boat while Jessica is asleep, and reporters question whether she can make the voyage safely. Her parents worry too but keep supporting her.
