Plot summary
Street performer Philippe Petit works the crowds of Paris in 1973. A hard candy from his audience damages a tooth, and in the dentist's waiting room a magazine photograph of the Twin Towers gives him an idea: a wire stretched between the two rooftops. His father, who disapproves of his trade, throws him out of the house. Philippe returns to the circus that first drew him to the wire, where Papa Rudy catches him practicing after hours and trades knot-tying and rigging lessons for pay. Annie, a fellow street performer, becomes his partner and arranges practice space at her music school. The photographer Jean-Louis signs on, and brings in Jeff. The team settles on a date in New York.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Walk (2015)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Robert Zemeckis discovered Philippe Petit's 1974 stunt in a children's picture book, The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, and at first doubted it had happened at all, saying he had "somehow missed it".
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt had never been on a high wire before, and trained with Petit himself. By the end of the eighth day he could walk the wire unaided, and he kept practicing throughout the shoot.
- The vertiginous walk was staged on a soundstage rather than a tower. The crew rebuilt the top two stories of the World Trade Center and strung a wire about 12 feet off the ground, anchored to a pole and running out across a green screen.
- Beyond the wire work, Gordon-Levitt learned to speak French fluently for the part, polishing a Parisian accent with help from co-star Charlotte Le Bon and the other French actors on set.
- Sony gave The Walk a small place in studio history: it was the first film released to carry the new TriStar Pictures logo that the studio introduced in 2015.
