Plot summary
Since his wife died, Martin Naranjo has run the kitchen of the family's suburban Los Angeles house. He can no longer smell or taste food, but he keeps preparing long, multi-course dinners that his three adult daughters attend. Leticia, the eldest, teaches high school chemistry and left Catholicism for a born-again faith. Carmen shares her father's love of cooking but chose steady work over her dream of opening a restaurant. Maribel, the youngest, is restless and rebellious. Yolanda, a recently divorced family friend, is often at the house with her daughter April, and Hortensia, Yolanda's visiting mother, has decided Martin should become her next husband, though his attention is focused elsewhere. Maribel takes an interest in Andy, a Brazilian student.
