Plot summary

Tornado, a young Japanese woman, is on the run in 1790s Scotland from a band of brigands under the ruthless Sugarman. She hides in a remote mansion, but the gang occupies it and threatens the family living there, so she slips away into the hills, where she finds a traveling circus and hides among its performers, reconnecting with a strongman who was a friend of her father. Fujin, her father, once a samurai swordsman, now works as a puppeteer and has trained her in both skills. Sugarman's gang, fresh from robbing a church of gold, once stopped to watch the two perform. A boy in the crowd picked the gang's pockets; Tornado caught him, hid him and the gold in their wagon, then kept the gold and threw him out on the road.
