Plot summary
Zach Decker was a teenager when he died of an overdose, and a year has passed since then. His father Nathan and his sister Addie have been rebuilding their days bit by bit. Paige, his mother, has not: grief keeps her shut away, she has stopped working, and the household has less money coming in. So the Decker family takes a lodger into the empty bedroom. Brandon is a student at a university nearby, and something about him matches what Zach meant to the household. He draws Paige back out, and Nathan and Addie are glad to see her acting more like herself.
