Plot summary

Jack Bronson plays warrior video games and helps out at a shop that sells Chinese curios and antiques. The house he lives in with his mother is heading for foreclosure. When Travis, a neighborhood bully, chases him at a bike park, Jack takes cover in his boss's store. There a box from Mr Cheng's cousin in Beijing, the family heirloom called the Warriors Gate, arrives, and Mr Cheng gives it to Jack. He falls asleep with the box and wakes to find a sword at his throat. Zhao, a warrior, tells him the kingdom's most precious person, Princess Su Lin, needs a guardian, and she stays with Jack overnight. In the morning barbarians come for her, she fights them off, and they take her back through the gate. Jack follows.
