Ron Smoorenburg
Biography
Ron Smoorenburg is an actor and martial artist from the Netherlands, known for his 1998 film debut in Jackie Chan's Who Am I?, where he played a high-kicking henchman in the closing fight. Born in Nieuwegein, he started martial arts at seven, moving from judo to karate and free fighting, and set a highest-kick record on a local television program. After Chan cast him as one of the final opponents, he took small roles in Hong Kong movies, including a cage fighter in Gen-Y Cops and a main villain in Martial Angels. He returned to the Netherlands in 2002, worked as a fight choreographer, and appeared in Fighting Fish, then moved to Thailand in 2005 after stunt work on Tom-Yum-Goong. Later credits include Ninja: Shadow of a Tear (2013), Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge (2014), Never Back Down: No Surrender (2016), The Warriors Gate (2016) and the Bollywood film Sultan (2016).

Big break
While Jackie Chan was filming Who Am I? in Rotterdam in 1997, Smoorenburg tried out for a part. Chan was impressed with his kicking skills and hired him as one of two final opponents.

In 2004 Smoorenburg co-starred in Fighting Fish and also choreographed it. This was the first full-length martial arts film to come out of the Netherlands.
