Plot summary

One night, while her husband Bob is away, Christine Hunter stabs a man who has come into her house. She tells Bob and her lawyer Larry Hannaford, a good friend, that the man was a stranger and that she acted in self-defense. The dead man's name is Tanner. Martin Barrow, who owns an art shop, brings Hannaford a bust of Christine's head. Tanner is a sculptor, and the bust carries his signature. Barrow asks for money in exchange for keeping the piece to himself. When Christine hears about the bust, she goes to Barrow's shop to try to take possession of it.
