Plot summary
Six-year-old Benjamin Michael Landry is taken from the lawn of his family's home. His father, Craig, chases the truck on foot but cannot catch it, and the abductor gets away. Police later establish that John Kozlowski abducted and killed the boy. Craig carries guilt over failing to reach his son, and Benjamin's mother, Elise, blames him for not watching the child closely. At trial, Kozlowski supplies details of other murders and receives a sentence of 25 years to life, which leaves the couple furious. Elise wants Kozlowski dead and asks her husband to bring her a gun; he refuses. She moves out, and Craig, alone in the house, contemplates suicide. When the two meet again, Craig tells her that killing Kozlowski would not be enough, and together they work out a plan to take him.
