Plot summary
Sami Malik, raised in India by a father known for hunting tigers, travels to Chicago in 1979 to make his name. He trained as an engineer, but the job he expected never comes through, and he settles for a temporary drafting post at an electronics company. He shares a place with other under-employed engineers and Babu Rahman, a chef from Pakistan. The roommates dream up an elaborate farce so that Sami can win over Ruby Iqbal, the girl he adored as a child. Alex Womack, whose father Frank heads the company, helps Sami along.
