Plot summary

Holly teaches high school in a small town, lives with her husband Rob, who works at the local supermarket and is focused on a promotion, and raises two teenage sons who fault her for minor problems. Beneath the ordinary routine she carries emotional and mental strain: she sleeps little, visits the medicine cabinet often, and the mouse that keeps appearing in the house becomes an object of her fixation. One of her students, Paul, shows a concerning fascination with her, and in his notebook she finds sketches of herself that trouble her. Her estranged sister Claudia comes to a family meal and brings up a painful part of their shared past.
