Plot summary
Centuries ago, the Forbidden Arts rose from the underworld to destroy its rivals for magical power. A community of large talking flying squirrels, the scullions, dedicated itself to destroying the Swan Princess, and the Forbidden Arts has long tried to defeat Odette, who was born to King William. Odette and Derek now live at the castle, where Uberta urges them to have a child. The scullions, among them the brothers Cutter and Jojo, track them, and their leader Mangler has joined with the Forbidden Arts. A house fire kills the father of a girl named Alise, and Odette and Derek bring her to the castle and, since she has no living relatives, adopt her. The scullions then attack the castle and kidnap Alise, locking everyone else in the cellar.
