Plot summary
During the Civil War, Union troops in the Southern backwoods hold a Confederate town captive and force its soldiers to cross woodland laced with mines. Jeremy, a young boy, is made to walk it too; he and his mother, Melanie, are the only survivors, and Jeremy has unearthly powers. In the 1980s, the 44th, descendants of that Union platoon, are on maneuvers in the same woods. Pvt. Ray Ellis keeps catching sight of Melanie and is drawn to Pvt. Angela Lejune as well. The platoon camps in a circle of yellow grass where the wind blows only outward. Ellis is reluctant, but Sgt. Leona Hawkins will not have her authority undermined. Melanie then appears to the whole platoon and shows a strong interest in Ellis, who resembles her husband, Evan.

- Bee Gees member Maurice Gibb wrote the original score for The Supernaturals, but it was rejected in favour of one by Robert O. Ragland; Gibb still appears in the film in a cameo as a Union soldier.
- A limited and subsequently slashed budget on The Supernaturals meant its effects crew had to give up prosthetic makeup and use head masks instead.
- Make-up and special effects artist Bart J. Mixon made a forehead appliance with a bullet hole in it for Bobby Di Cicco, who had just finished filming 1941.
