Plot summary
In 2213, while Kantmiss Evershot shoots arrows in the woods, her boyfriend Dale sneaks up on her and her shot hits the Wizard of Oz. The two go back to District 12, where people brawl over food and children maim themselves so they will not be chosen. At the gathering for the 75th Starving Games, President Snowballs describes how he divided America into districts and reads out the prizes, which include a half-eaten pickle. Petunia's name is drawn, and she fakes tears until her sister takes her place. Dale tries to volunteer, but Peter Malarkey, the town idiot, gets there first. In the Capitol, Kantmiss wears a dress that ignites as she spins during her televised interview.
