Plot summary
On the first day of high school, friends Virgil Fox, Derek Beaugard and Stephanie Jameson each try out an activity: Derek goes for football, Stephanie for cheerleading, and Virgil tries to help Charlie Tuttle, a young genius whose rocket-powered vehicle interrupts football practice. The jocks humiliate Virgil and Charlie. Three years on, Virgil and Charlie are outcasts, while Derek and Stephanie are popular and together. Charlie designs a time machine, and he and Virgil bring in Zeke Thompson, another outcast, for his engineering skill. A first trip back in time fails to pay off when a street performer keeps the winning lottery ticket they had him buy. Virgil and Charlie then decide to use the machine to undo their classmates' embarrassing moments, with Jeannette Pachelewski overseeing the trips and handing them snowsuits against the time stream's freezing cold.
