Plot summary
André brings together outcasts and thieves in a camp in the south of Algiers, and Yasmin, his daughter, dances for the band. Ghabah, a Moor among the bandits, has been promised her hand. Yasmin meets Ahmed and the two fall in love; she does not know that he is a sheik's son. Ahmed's father keeps him in a compound with heavy guards, and Ahmed slips away from it to visit her in secret at the ruins of Touggourt, where she dances. One night André and his men surprise Ahmed, beat him and drag him off, meaning to hold the sheik's son for ransom.
