Plot summary
Dan Dark writes detective novels, and psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis have put him in a hospital. The doctors and nurses around his bed appear in the choreographed musical numbers he hallucinates. Angry at everyone, he is sent to the psychiatrist Dr. Gibbon, who thinks the trouble lies in the novel Dark wrote, The Secret Detective. That book follows a nightclub singer and private eye hired by Mark Binney for a case involving prostitutes and two mysterious men. Dark fantasizes about the novel during the sessions, with the people he meets in the ward taking the parts of his fictional characters.
