Plot summary
Ally Andrews lost her hearing in a car accident. She lives with her father Hugh, her mother Kelly, her brother Jude and her grandmother Lynn, and the family keeps a rottweiler named Otis. A cave research team uncovers a species of pterosaur-like creatures in a mine; the creatures kill the researchers and escape, seeking the noisiest places. They hunt by sound and are called Vesps. News reports of the first attacks lead officials to tell people to remain indoors and keep quiet. Ally persuades the family to head for the countryside, away from the cities, which are thick with Vesps. Hugh's friend Glenn joins them and brings guns.

- The film's creatures, called Vesps, take their name from the Spanish word avispa, meaning wasp, according to the production notes. Director John R. Leonetti said research into other cave creatures went into designing them.
- Global Road Entertainment acquired the U.S. distribution rights in December 2017 for a December 2018 theatrical release, but the distributor's financial troubles led it to pull the film and sell it to Netflix in a failed attempt to avoid bankruptcy.
