Plot summary
Viktor's house in the woods is a brothel where abducted girls are drugged and made up before soldiers take them. Angel, a deaf girl with a birthmark on her face, saw her mother killed when Goran's militia swept through her Balkan town in 1996. Viktor chooses her to stay as the servant of the house rather than a captive for the men. By day she prepares the girls and cleans them afterward; at night she crawls through the spaces between the walls and the ventilation ducts. There she meets Vanya, a newcomer who knows sign language, and the two become friends.
