Plot summary
England is in the middle of civil war, and King Charles I has fallen into the hands of Roundhead troops commanded by Colonel Judd, a cruel officer whose right-hand man is Captain Sylvester. Judd hunts royalist sympathizers while remaining unaware that his daughter Claire's sympathies lie with the other side. A band of locals who remain loyal to the crown gathers behind a figure known as the Scarlet Blade, and their purpose is to free the king. Claire, helping them in secret, is caught between two men on opposite sides of the fighting: the Cavalier Edward Beverley and the Roundhead officer Captain Sylvester.
