Robert Rietty
Biography
Robert Rietti was an English actor and dubbing director who also worked as a translator and playwright, with a prolific career in British, American, and Italian productions. Born in Paddington in 1923, he was the son of actor Victor Rietti and made his stage debut in his father's company before entering films as a child. He became a familiar screen and television performer and was especially known for post-production dubbing, directing ADR on more than 700 films and lending his voice to foreign actors. He provided voices for eight James Bond films, among them Thunderball (1965) and You Only Live Twice (1967), and he appeared in The Omen (1976). He was nominated for a Golden Reel Award for his ADR direction on Once Upon a Time in America (1984). He also adapted Italian plays and founded the theater quarterly Gambit. He died in 2015.

Rietti dubbed the voice of Adolfo Celi in Thunderball and Tetsuro Tamba in You Only Live Twice, and his voice was used in eight James Bond films.
A role that slipped away
Rietti was handpicked by Alfred Hitchcock to play the lead in Sabotage (1936), but he let Hitchcock down and did not take the part.
Behind the camera
Rietti started Gambit, a theater quarterly, and was its executive editor for 18 years. The publication printed international plays, among them many that he wrote himself.
