Jack Hedley

Biography

Jack Hedley was an English actor of film, radio, stage and television who was best known for his television work. Born in London, he trained at RADA, graduating in 1957 alongside Glenda Jackson and Alan Bates, and landed his first job, a Granada Television play, the following day. His screen career began with a short drama-documentary about polio, A Life to be Lived, and he went on to star in the BBC serial The World of Tim Frazer from 1960 to 1961. His 1960s films included The Scarlet Blade (1963) and Witchcraft (1964). He had a lead role as Lieutenant Colonel Preston in Colditz from 1972 to 1974 and played Sir Timothy Havelock in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only (1981), also voicing the character's parrot. Later work included Lucio Fulci's The New York Ripper. He died in 2021.

Early training
Hedley earned an Acting (RADA Diploma) when he finished drama school in 1957. The next day he got his first acting work, in a Granada Television play staged in Manchester.
A role that slipped away
Hedley played Corrigan Blake in Alun Owen's BBC play You Can't Win 'Em All in 1962, but John Turner took over the role in the series Corrigan Blake the following year.
