Harold Goldblatt

Harold Goldblatt was a British actor who also worked as a theater director and producer, born in Manchester and raised largely in Belfast. He started a dramatic society and stayed a leading member when it merged in 1940 with the Ulster Theatre and the Northern Ireland Players to become the Group Theatre. He left that company in 1959, then set up the Ulster Theatre Company in 1963, bringing in several people from the Group. During the 1950s he was heard often on BBC Radio and in films and television. His film work included the role of Benjamin Guggenheim in the Titanic drama A Night to Remember (1958). For television, his parts included Concepta Riley's father Sean in four Coronation Street episodes and Professor Dale in the 1973 Doctor Who serial Frontier in Space. He was also Dr. O'Connell in the 1961 series Pathfinders in Space. Queen's University Belfast gave him an honorary degree in 1966, and he died in 1982.
