Plot summary
A bleak and windy night brings Jimmy Kelly and Marjorie Burns to the Red Rock Tavern, where they intend to marry as soon as the justice of the peace they arranged to meet there arrives. Mrs. Jamison has no rooms to give them but lets them wait, and Bill and Joan are among the other guests already staying there. Harrison is attacked and killed by what appears to be a wild dog that breaks into the inn, and Mason telephones the coroner. The weather and the late hour keep everyone overnight; Marjorie is given Joan's room for the night, and Jimmy takes Bill's.
