Clara Kimball Young
Biography
Clara Kimball Young was an American actress who became one of the most popular stars of the early silent era. Born in Chicago, she made her stage debut at three and toured with her parents' stock company before joining Vitagraph Studios in 1912. There she was cast mainly as the virtuous heroine of one- and two-reel films and was a leading lady by 1913. The 1914 drama My Official Wife, in which she played a Russian revolutionary, was an enormous success and led to a contract with Lewis J. Selznick and made her a leading draw at World Film Corporation. Her stardom faded by 1925, the year of her last silent film, Lying Wives, and she spent the rest of the decade in vaudeville. Sound briefly revived her career in featured roles for RKO and Tiffany and smaller parts, including the murder mystery The Rogues' Tavern (1936). She retired in 1941.
