Joan Woodbury
Biography
Joan Woodbury was an American actress whose screen career began in the 1930s and continued into the 1960s. Born in Los Angeles, she trained in dance and danced with the Agua Caliente company before moving to Hollywood to try acting. Her first role came in 1934 in Eight Girls in a Boat, uncredited, and she soon earned a credited part in One Exciting Adventure. Billed as Nana Martinez, she took her first major role in the Hopalong Cassidy movie The Eagle's Brood. Woodbury appeared in many B movies and Westerns, often as the heroine opposite cowboy stars, and in 1937 she began a run of credited Charlie Chan films with Charlie Chan on Broadway. Her most memorable lead of that period was the 1945 serial Brenda Starr, Reporter. She later founded the Valley Players Guild in Palm Springs and appeared in The Ten Commandments (1956). Her final film was The Time Travelers (1964).
