Plot summary
Stuart Goodson works at the Cincinnati Public Library, where Myra is a librarian too and Mr. Anderson is the head librarian. A brutal cold front reaches Cincinnati and the city's emergency shelters fill to capacity. Homeless patrons who use the library, led by Jackson with help from Cactus Ray, decline to leave at closing time, and the sit-in they begin is an Occupy-style act of civil disobedience. Local riot police confront them, and Detective Bill Ramstead serves as the crisis negotiator. Josh Davis, the district attorney, arrives with political ambitions of his own. Stuart and Myra are caught in the middle of the standoff.
