Plot summary
Father Gabriele Amorth, a World War II partisan who serves as the Pope's personal exorcist, has drawn the anger of a Church tribunal that doubts the Devil exists. In Spain, Julia Vasquez and her children, Amy and Henry, have come to an old abbey left to them by her late husband, who died in a car accident Henry witnessed. Since then Henry has been silent; after a fire at the abbey, he acts strangely, and medical tests find nothing wrong. When Henry demands a priest, the Pope sends Amorth to the abbey. A local priest, Father Esquibel, assists him as they take on the case.
