Plot summary
Christina Eames was a photographer. After her death, her daughter Mae inherits a safe-deposit box holding a photograph and two letters, one addressed to Mae and one meant for her father. In Louisiana, the journalist Michael Block interviews Isaac Jefferson about his life after Hurricane Katrina and grows curious about a photograph of Christina in Isaac's home. In the past, Christina and Isaac are flirtatious friends. In New York, Michael meets Mae, an assistant curator, who shows him her mother's archival material; he engineers a second meeting at a screening, and their first date ends with a kiss.
