Plot summary
Long ago in Egypt, the manservant Prem takes the boy Kah-To-Bey into the desert after the child's father is killed in a palace coup, and the boy dies and is buried with a sacred shroud. In 1920, the expedition led by Sir Basil Walden locates the tomb, and Hasmid, a local Bedouin, warns the team about what happens to those who violate Egyptian tombs. A venomous snake bites Sir Basil soon after the discovery. He recovers in Cairo, then suffers a relapse, and the businessman Stanley Preston has him committed to an asylum so that he can claim the tomb and the mummy as his own discovery.
