David Buck
Biography
David Buck was an English actor and author who worked in television, film and radio from 1959 to 1989. Born in London, he began on the small screen and took the part of Horatio Hornblower in an episode of Alcoa Premiere in 1963. He played Winston Smith in a 1965 Theatre 625 adaptation of 1984, and narrated the first two series of the horror anthology Mystery and Imagination. His films included Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow (1963), The Mummy's Shroud (1967), Deadfall (1968), Mosquito Squadron (1969) and Taste of Excitement (1970). He later did voice work, supplying Gimli in The Lord of the Rings (1978) and SkekNa in The Dark Crystal (1982), and played Dr. Watson in a BBC Radio 4 Sherlock Holmes series. He also wrote and illustrated a children's book, The Small Adventures of Dog, and read his stories on Jackanory in 1971.
