Plot summary
In 1662, France is bankrupt from King Louis XIV's wars against the Dutch. The young king sends the army's spoiling food to his starving people and orders Aramis, a veteran musketeer, to hunt down the leader of the Jesuits who want him dead. At a festival in Versailles, Louis pursues Christine Bellefort, the fiancée of Raoul, son of the former musketeer Athos, while D'Artagnan, captain of the king's guard, stops an attempt on the king's life. Aramis brings Athos, Porthos and D'Artagnan together with a plan against the king, and D'Artagnan refuses to take part.
