Plot summary
Evan Merck is a poet who lives alone and keeps his feelings to himself. He earns his living by writing suicide notes for people who have decided to end their lives. After one client dies, Evan goes to the funeral, where he meets the man's sister, Charlotte. She asks how he knew her brother, and rather than explain his work he says they were old college friends. Charlotte is curious about him and pursues him romantically. Evan finds himself falling for her, but he cannot bring himself to say what he really does. He also takes on a new client, Abel, a sarcastic composer whose career has come down to making jingles for phone messages.
