Biography

Allan Rich was an American character actor who used that name professionally and was born Benjamin Norman Schultz in 1926. His family lived in Astoria, Queens, before moving to the Bronx when he was six years old. Acting came early for him, at the age of nine, and he appeared on Broadway in I'll Take the High Road in 1943, Career Angel in 1944, Darkness at Noon in 1951 and The Emperor's Clothes in 1953. In 1948 he took the lead in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in a staging of Ben Jonson's Volpone. From 1979 he served as distributor and publisher of Hollywood portraits shot by George Hurrell. Rich died in 2020.
