Plot summary

Maren Taylor's two younger sisters have left home, and she stays behind on the family's Midwest sod farm, alone with her father, Frank, who is depressed and abuses narcotics. She farms the fields by day and plays drums at night, and she has long considered her hope of a career as a professional musician unrealistic. Frank sees how unhappy she is and insists that she go on the road and pursue Americana music. Maren follows his advice and joins the band of Luke Thomas, a legendary country star.
