Plot summary
Carol Edwards and Jane Pruitt, two actresses who share a flat, join a company of out-of-work performers assembled by a producer who gives no name for a stage production called The Flesh and Blood Show. Rehearsals are set for the Dome Theatre, a dreary abandoned playhouse on the pier at East Cliff. Mike, who is directing the play, is there, as are the actors Simon and Angela, who arrived before the others. John and Tony, more of the cast, are also on hand. Julia Dawson, an actress who has lately built a career in films, has not yet come. Because the local hotels are shut for the off-season, the cast must stay in the theatre while they rehearse.
