Jess Conrad

Jess Conrad is an English actor and singer, born in Brixton, South London, who started out in repertory and as a film extra before a television play, Bye, Bye Barney, cast him as a pop singer. Jack Good put him in the series Oh Boy!, and a Decca Records contract brought chart hits including Cherry Pie and This Pullover. His films ranged from Konga (1961) and Michael Powell's The Queen's Guards to a cameo in the Sex Pistols film The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980), and he played Danny Pace in a 1963 episode of The Human Jungle. On stage he appeared in Godspell and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, while his television work included Are You Being Served, a 1984 Miss Marple episode and The Generation Game. He played Larry Parnes in Telstar: The Joe Meek Story (2008) and was appointed an OBE in 2011 for charitable services.
